The United Arab Emirates has upgraded its Wage Protection System (WPS) to simplify employer registration, improve data security and accelerate salary payment processing.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) announced that the enhanced system introduces a fully digital registration process, eliminating the need for employers to submit paperwork or visit financial institutions in person.
Developed in collaboration with the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) and Al Etihad Payments, the upgraded platform connects the ministry directly with participating financial institutions through secure digital infrastructure, enabling faster data exchange and more efficient payroll processing.
The system is also designed to improve the accuracy, traceability and security of salary transactions, while strengthening transparency and reliability in wage payments.
The latest expansion includes seven new partners: First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), Emirates NBD, Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB), Mashreq Bank, Ajman Bank, Lari Exchange and First Gulf Exchange Centre.
With these additions, the system now has 17 partners and covers more than 99 per cent of private-sector workers in the UAE. It processes an average of Dh37 billion in salary transfers each month.
MoHRE Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Protection Dalal Alshehhi said the upgraded system had evolved beyond a wage-compliance mechanism into a comprehensive digital financial ecosystem supporting the country’s labour market.
The ministry said the initiative also supports the UAE’s efforts to reduce government bureaucracy, expand financial inclusion and strengthen digital financial governance under the “We the UAE 2031” vision.
