Abu Dhabi to test smart rings to identify pregnancy risks

Abu Dhabi is launching a 24-month pilot project using smart rings to monitor women with high-risk pregnancies and explore whether wearable technology can help doctors identify warning signs earlier.

The project, led by Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health in partnership with wearable technology company Oura, will examine whether information collected by smart rings can help medical teams detect potential complications associated with premature birth.

Participants will use the devices during pregnancy, with information from the wearable technology being assessed alongside medical care.

The initiative is part of Abu Dhabi’s broader push to use digital health technology and data-driven healthcare to improve outcomes for patients.

Doctors hope the technology could eventually help identify changes requiring medical attention earlier, allowing care teams to intervene before a condition becomes more serious.

The project is still a pilot, meaning its results will need to be evaluated before any wider use is considered.
