The UAE’s astronomical summer will end on September 23 with the autumnal equinox marking the official start of autumn, according to Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomical Society.

Al Jarwan said meteorologists already consider September the first month of autumn, even though high temperatures are expected to persist through the month.

He noted that the country’s peak heat period, known as Al Qayz, begins to ease in late August with the rising of the star Suhail, traditionally seen as a sign of cooler conditions ahead.

While heat and humidity remain high, the Indian seasonal low-pressure system weakens in September, and shifting wind patterns contribute to dust, reduced visibility, and occasional fog and mist in some areas.

He added that convective cloud formation may continue over the eastern mountains, occasionally bringing thunderstorms and rainfall to inland regions.

Astronomical summer began on June 21 and lasts until the autumnal equinox, with daytime temperatures in early summer typically ranging between 41°C and 43°C and sometimes exceeding 50°C during heatwaves.
