Eid Al Adha holiday dates have been announced for UAE government employees, who are set to receive a five-day break this year.
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources stated that the public sector holiday will run from Monday, May 25 to Friday, May 29, 2026. With the inclusion of the weekend (Saturday and Sunday), employees could benefit from a nine-day extended break, with work resuming on Monday, June 1.
In Sharjah, government employees are expected to enjoy a longer 10-day holiday for Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha. This is due to the emirate’s four-day workweek structure, which includes a three-day weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), effectively extending the break.
Meanwhile, the moon-sighting committee is scheduled to meet on May 17 to observe the crescent of Dhul Hijjah. Astronomical predictions suggest that Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic calendar, is likely to begin on Monday, May 18.
The sighting will confirm the official start of Dhul Hijjah and determine key religious dates, including Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha, which are expected to lead to an extended public holiday period across the UAE.
