A Sri Lankan woman is awaiting news of her missing cat, which disappeared at Dubai International Airport on October 11 while being prepared for transport to Sri Lanka as air cargo.

Avishka Kaumadi was scheduled to fly to Sri Lanka at 11 pm that day after completing the required documentation and payment for transporting her pet.

She said an airline staff member informed her, after she had passed through immigration, that the cat had escaped from its carrier.

Kaumadi said she refused to board the flight without her pet and later joined a search in the airport’s cargo area. However, the search, which lasted more than an hour, failed to locate the animal.

She subsequently remained at the airport for around 28 hours while awaiting updates and returned the following day to follow up on the search.

Kaumadi later met a representative of the Dubai Airport Management Team to discuss the matter. She said she was told that arrangements could be made to transport the cat to Sri Lanka if it was found, even if the process took several weeks.

Five days after the incident, the cat remained missing, with Kaumadi continuing to await news of its whereabouts.

The case has prompted an appeal for information to help locate the animal.
