Dense fog covered parts of the UAE on Friday morning, prompting authorities to issue safety warnings and reduce speed limits on some roads.
Visibility dropped sharply in several areas, with motorists in some locations reportedly unable to clearly see road signs until they were relatively close.
Abu Dhabi authorities reduced the speed limit to 80km/h on affected roads, while Dubai Police urged drivers to slow down and exercise extra caution.
The National Centre of Meteorology issued visibility alerts as fog affected parts of Abu Dhabi, Dubai and other emirates. Drivers were advised to maintain a safe distance, avoid sudden lane changes and follow electronic speed-limit signs.
The weather is expected to remain partly cloudy, with a chance of rain developing over eastern and southern areas later in the day. Temperatures in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah are expected to reach around 37°C.
For commuters, the warning is particularly important during the early morning rush hour, when reduced visibility can increase the risk of accidents.
