UAE residents planning to bring spouses, children or parents to live with them in Dubai should check the latest salary and documentation requirements before starting a family-sponsorship application.
Gulf News reported on October 8 that the general financial threshold for sponsoring eligible family members is Dh3,000 a month when accommodation is provided by the employer, or Dh4,000 without employer-provided accommodation. The sponsor must also hold a valid UAE residence permit and have suitable accommodation.
The rules generally allow residents to sponsor a spouse, unmarried daughters and sons under 25, while children with special needs can qualify regardless of age, subject to the applicable requirements. Women sponsoring husbands or children are also subject to the same general salary threshold, although additional documents can be required in particular family circumstances.
Parent sponsorship has a higher threshold in Dubai. GDRFA Dubai currently lists a minimum monthly salary of Dh10,000 for parent sponsorship, along with requirements including suitable accommodation and supporting documents.
The federal framework also confirms the Dh3,000-with-accommodation or Dh4,000-without-accommodation income requirement for sponsoring family members, while applicants need to provide proof of relationship and suitable housing.
For Sri Lankan expat families, the update is particularly useful when planning family reunification, changing employment or deciding whether a salary package is sufficient to support dependants in the UAE.
