Etihad Rail’s long-awaited Dubai passenger service began on Wednesday, September 30, marking a major expansion of the UAE’s national public transport network.
The first passenger train left Al Yalayis Station in Dubai at 6:14am for Abu Dhabi. The journey takes about 64 minutes, while passengers can also travel between Dubai and Fujairah. Comfort-class fares start at Dh39, while Premium Class tickets start at Dh109.
The new Al Yalayis station is connected to Dubai Metro’s Red Line through a 400-metre elevated pedestrian walkway, giving commuters an additional option for onward travel.
The launch is expected to be particularly significant for people who regularly travel between Dubai and Abu Dhabi for work, family and business, potentially providing an alternative to long road journeys.
