New data from a Dubai hospital is drawing attention to cardiovascular health among working-age residents, with around half of patients undergoing heart procedures in one analysis aged between 31 and 50.
Aster Hospital Mankhool released the figures as its cardiac catheterisation laboratory reached 10,000 procedures since 2018, ahead of World Heart Day on September 29.
The hospital said Indian and Pakistani expatriates accounted for a large share of the patients covered by its analyses. Doctors highlighted the importance of recognising cardiovascular risk earlier rather than assuming serious heart problems only affect older people.
The findings are particularly relevant to the UAE’s large South Asian working population, including Sri Lankan expatriates, many of whom work long hours and may face challenges maintaining regular exercise, healthy diets and routine medical checks.
The figures come from one hospital and should not be interpreted as representing the entire UAE population, but they provide a timely reminder about cardiovascular health as World Heart Day is observed.
