Cybersecurity officials have warned that smart-home devices, CCTV systems, smartphones and connected vehicles are increasingly being targeted in cyberattacks.
The UAE Government’s Head of Cybersecurity said attackers were exploiting internet-connected devices not only to cause direct damage but also to create fear. The number of daily attacks reportedly rose sharply during recent regional tensions.
Residents have been advised to update device software, replace default passwords, enable multi-factor authentication where available and avoid clicking on suspicious links sent through email or messaging applications.
Home routers, cameras, smart televisions, robotic vacuum cleaners and vehicle systems should also be checked regularly for security updates. Users who no longer need a connected device should disable remote access rather than leaving it active.
