UAE residents will be allowed to register up to five vehicles individually under new federal traffic regulations taking effect on January 1, 2027, with additional fees applying beyond the first two vehicles.
Article 89 of Cabinet Decision No. 174 of 2026 allows residents to register or renew two vehicles without the additional charge specified for extra vehicles. Registering a third, fourth or fifth vehicle will attract an additional fee for each vehicle.
The five-vehicle ceiling applies to each individual resident rather than an entire household. Paying the additional fee does not permit motorists to exceed the maximum number of vehicles allowed under the regulation.
Authorities have not yet specified the amount of the additional fee or clarified all transitional arrangements for residents who already have more than five registered vehicles.
The regulation also outlines vehicle licensing requirements, including restrictions on licensing vehicles that do not meet road-safety standards. Motorists planning to register additional vehicles next year should check with their relevant licensing authority for further details before completing transactions.
