The UAE could begin testing air taxi technology as early as next year as Chinese manufacturer Aridge prepares to move into the next stage of its aircraft development programme.
The company is working towards completing certification for its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and plans to conduct test operations in Ras Al Khaimah, subject to regulatory approval.
Aridge is targeting the start of UAE testing in early 2027 and has indicated that deliveries to customers could follow towards the end of the year. The aircraft has already undergone test flights in China as the company works towards obtaining the required type certification.
Ras Al Khaimah has agreed to establish a regulatory sandbox with Aridge, allowing the company to conduct further testing under the emirate’s regulatory framework.
The planned trials form part of the UAE’s wider push to develop advanced air mobility and introduce new forms of transportation. However, the proposed timeline remains dependent on certification, regulatory approvals and the successful completion of testing.
If approved, the UAE would be among the early markets to test the technology in real-world operating conditions.
