The Central Bank of the UAE has provided repayment relief to 148,681 individual banking customers, with loan deferrals worth Dh2.3 billion, as part of a wider financial-support programme introduced earlier this year.
Overall, the Central Bank says its Financial Institutions Resilience Package has supported 155,970 customers and covered loans worth Dh15.9 billion. The package also benefited 6,441 small and medium-sized businesses with Dh2.9 billion in deferred repayments and 849 private-sector companies with Dh10.7 billion.
The programme was launched in March following regional disruptions, with the aim of easing temporary financial pressure on borrowers while maintaining stability in the banking sector. Banks have also waived certain commissions and fees under the support measures.
The latest figures also show continued growth in UAE banking, with assets rising 12.9 per cent year on year by the end of August, lending increasing 18.8 per cent and deposits growing 13 per cent.
