Abu Dhabi cuts road speeds to 80kph as heavy fog hits

Dense fog returned across parts of the UAE on Wednesday morning, prompting Abu Dhabi Police to temporarily reduce speed limits to 80kph on several major routes.

The temporary restrictions affected sections of the E11 between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the Abu Dhabi–Al Ain Road, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Road and several other routes. Drivers received alerts warning them about the reduced limits and poor visibility.

The National Centre of Meteorology issued yellow and red fog alerts, with visibility falling below one kilometre in some areas. The temporary restrictions are lifted when conditions improve, so motorists are advised to follow the speed displayed on electronic signs rather than relying on the normal road limit.

Authorities say further mist and fog could develop across coastal and inland areas over the coming days. Drivers who exceed temporary limits can face fines, with penalties increasing according to the seriousness of the violation.
