Dubai has approved an 80-kilometre road corridor intended to strengthen connections between Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah while reducing some journey times by as much as 60 per cent.
The route will extend from Al Shanoof Street in Sharjah through Dubai towards the Dubai–Al Ain Road and the Abu Dhabi entrance.
The first phase is valued at Dh3.5 billion. Plans include 12 lanes across both directions, 72 bridges, 17 tunnels and 45 stormwater drainage culverts.
Once completed, the corridor is expected to handle up to 24,000 vehicles an hour in both directions and serve more than 3.1 million residents.
Connections are also planned with Al Maktoum International Airport and Etihad Rail, providing an additional route for passenger, commercial and logistics traffic moving between the emirates.
