Dubai Police have arrested a reckless motorist who allegedly drove at speeds exceeding 230kph after removing the number plates from his vehicle in an attempt to evade detection.
The driver was fined Dh50,000 (around US$13,600), and the SUV was seized after the dangerous driving was captured by traffic cameras. Footage shared by Dubai Police on social media showed the vehicle speeding through the city at night while other motorists were on the road.
Brig. Jumaa bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, said the force’s advanced smart systems were able to identify both the vehicle and the driver despite the missing number plates.
He urged motorists to obey traffic laws and drive responsibly, stressing that Dubai Police’s smart systems can track offenders even if they attempt to conceal their vehicle’s identity.
The public can also report dangerous driving through the Police Eye service available on the Dubai Police smart app.
