A giant glowing sphere set to rise on Yas Island is expected to become one of Abu Dhabi’s most prominent landmarks, with its massive LED-covered exterior visible from highways, bridges and parts of the capital, according to the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) – Abu Dhabi.

The $1.7 billion Sphere Abu Dhabi, to be built between Yas Mall and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, will be the first Sphere outside the United States and only the second in the world. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2029.

Inspired by the Las Vegas Sphere, the venue’s programmable LED exterior, known as the Exosphere, will showcase immersive digital art, with DCT confirming that works by UAE artists will feature prominently alongside competitions for school and university students.

Inside, the venue will offer immersive entertainment experiences, concerts, cultural storytelling and major international events using wraparound visuals and advanced spatial audio technology. DCT said the content will reflect Emirati identity while also attracting global audiences.

Ticket prices have not yet been announced and are expected to vary depending on the event and seating category.
