Sharjah Police have arrested seven Asian nationals and foiled an alleged cybercrime operation involving an electronic fraud network accused of impersonating officials.

Authorities said the suspects tricked victims into downloading malicious applications that enabled remote access to their mobile phones. They also allegedly used labour-related data to open bank accounts, which were then used to launder money obtained through cybercrimes.

The arrests come as the UAE continues to strengthen measures against cyber threats. The UAE Cybersecurity Council has warned of increasing cyberattacks targeting financial institutions, including phishing campaigns, malware deployment, exploitation of security vulnerabilities and attempts to breach critical digital infrastructure.

Authorities urged individuals and organisations to follow cybersecurity guidelines, update systems regularly and report suspicious online activities through official channels.
