A high school student was killed in a road accident in Ras Al Khaimah while travelling to sit his final examinations, after his vehicle collided with a trailer truck that reportedly entered the main road suddenly, according to his father.
The victim, 18-year-old Salem Al Mazrouei, was travelling from Al Ghail to his school in the Adhen area on Thursday morning when the crash occurred. He was being driven by a friend, who also sustained injuries.
His father, Ali Rashid Al Mazrouei, said the truck had suddenly entered the road from the right, and the driver attempted to avoid it before the vehicle collided with the rear of the trailer.
Salem died at the scene, while his friend suffered multiple injuries including fractures to the pelvis, neck and arm. He was initially in a serious condition but has since stabilised and is now able to speak, the father said.
Describing his son, Ali Rashid said Salem was a well-mannered and high-achieving student who was widely loved by family, teachers and peers. He added that teachers visited the family to offer condolences and spoke highly of him.
“He was very caring and always helped everyone around him,” he said. “This was God’s will. May Allah have mercy on him and grant him paradise.”
