The UAE will enforce its annual midday work ban from June 15 to September 15, prohibiting outdoor work under direct sunlight between 12:30pm and 3pm, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation said.
Now in its 22nd year, the measure aims to protect workers from heat-related illnesses during the summer.
Employers are required to provide shaded rest areas, cooling equipment, and adequate drinking water during the restriction period.
Certain essential and technically unavoidable activities, including asphalt paving, concrete pouring, and emergency utility repairs, are exempt. Work requiring special government permits may also continue.
Violations carry fines of Dh5,000 per worker, up to Dh50,000 per case.
The ministry reported a 99 per cent compliance rate last year, along with the provision of thousands of air-conditioned rest areas for delivery riders nationwide.
