An oral form of the weight-loss drug Wegovy has been approved for use in the United Arab Emirates, marking its latest expansion in the region’s obesity treatment options.

The drug, manufactured by Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, is already available in the UAE as an injectable pen but will now be offered as a once-daily oral tablet. The first shipments reportedly arrived in the country on Monday and are expected to be available soon, though pricing has not yet been announced.

The approval was granted by the Emirates Drug Establishment following regulatory clearance in the United States earlier this year. Officials said the decision reflects efforts to support innovative treatments for obesity and related health conditions.

The oral version of Wegovy does not require cold storage, unlike injectable semaglutide therapies, and is designed to improve patient convenience and adherence.

UAE health authorities and medical experts have highlighted the growing use of weight-loss medications as part of broader efforts to address rising obesity rates and reduce associated risks such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
