
The leadership of the Sri Lankan IT Professionals Association – United Arab Emirates (SLITPA-UAE) held a strategic meeting with the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the United Arab Emirates, Her Excellency Prof. Arusha Cooray, at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi on 10 February 2026.
The SLITPA-UAE delegation comprised President Mr. Thishan Gunasekara, Secretary Mr. Dilum Fernando, Treasurer Ms. Rasara Indrachapa, Director – Membership Mr. Rizwan Razeek, and Director – Media and Communication Mr. Nimesh Jayawickrama. Representing the Embassy were H.E. Prof. Arusha Cooray and Head of Chancery Ms. Priya Nagarajah.
Hosted by H.E. Prof. Arusha Cooray, the meeting served as a strategic engagement aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Sri Lankan diplomatic mission and the Sri Lankan IT professional community in the UAE, while aligning shared objectives for national development and professional advancement.
During the discussion, the SLITPA-UAE leadership presented an overview of the association’s formation, vision, and mandate, highlighting its ongoing efforts to empower Sri Lankan IT professionals in the UAE and contribute to Sri Lanka’s growing technology ecosystem. The delegation emphasized SLITPA-UAE’s role as an apex body representing Sri Lankan IT and technology professionals in the Emirates.
A key area of focus was the upcoming SLITPA-UAE Annual IT Awards Ceremony, which was outlined as a flagship initiative to recognize excellence, promote innovation, and enhance the global visibility of Sri Lankan technology talent. The awards aim to foster stronger professional networks and encourage industry collaboration.
H.E. Prof. Arusha Cooray commended the progress and structured approach of SLITPA-UAE since its inception and acknowledged the association’s contribution to community development. The Ambassador expressed the Embassy’s willingness to extend support, within its capacity, for future SLITPA-UAE initiatives and events, recognizing their value to both the Sri Lankan community in the UAE and Sri Lanka’s international professional standing.
Further, the Ambassador emphasized the importance of collaboration with key national institutions, including The Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies (SLASSCOM) and the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), to jointly respond to the growing demand for overseas skilled employment opportunities in the UAE, particularly within the technology and professional services sectors.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to maintain close engagement and collaborate on future initiatives aimed at uplifting the Sri Lankan community, promoting professional excellence, and strengthening cooperation between the Embassy and SLITPA-UAE.
