April 19, 2023 at 3:46 PM

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the timings for Dubai Metro, tram and buses during the Eid Al Fitr holiday.

According to Khaleej Times, the break starts from Thursday, April 20, and, depending on when the Moon is sighted to signal the start of the Islamic festival, residents will get either four of five days off.

Metro, tram and buses

Metro Red and Green Line stations will operate from Thursday to Saturday, 5am to 1am; and on Sunday from 8am to 1am.

Dubai Tram will be operating from Thursday to Saturday from 6am to 1am and on Sunday from 9am to 1am.

The timings of public bus stations across Dubai will be from 6am to 1am. Metro feeder bus stations will be synchronised with the timing of the first and last Metro journeys.

Vehicle testing centres

Customer service counters at vehicle testing centres will be closed during the Eid Al Fitr holiday, from Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3.

The vehicle testing service for technical inspection will be closed on Shawwal 1 and 2.

Customer happiness centres will be closed during the holiday. Smart centres in Umm Ramool, Deira, Al Barsha, Al Manara, Al Kifaf, and RTA’s Head Office will operate as usual around the clock.

Free public parking

Public parking will be free to use during the Eid Al Fitr holiday in Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced. This does not apply to multi-level parking terminals.

Residents can enjoy either four or five days of free parking, depending on when the Moon is sighted to signal the start of the Islamic festival.

Free parking will be activated on Thursday, April 20 (Ramadan 29). It will remain free till Shawwal 3 (Islamic Hijri calendar month). Fees apply from Shawwal 4, the RTA added.

Four or five days of free parking

The official Eid holiday is from Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3. Therefore, free parking will begin on Thursday, April 20. The only question is whether it will be free for four or five days.

The UAE’s moon-sighting committee will meet on Thursday, April 20, to determine whether Eid is on Friday, April 21; or Saturday, April 22. If Eid is on Friday, parking will be free from Thursday till Sunday. If on Saturday, free parking applies from Thursday to Monday. (NewsWire)
